Construction Activities

Construction of schools and hostels run by this department and community halls for the welfare of Adi Dravidar and Scheduled Tribes are undertaken by the construction wing of TAHDCO. It has also been entrusted with the work of providing additional amenities and improvement of basic infrastructure facilities to Adi Dravidar and Tribal habitations and Adi Dravidar Welfare and Government Tribal Residential schools.

At Present, TAHDCO construction wing has taken up 602 works to a total value of Rs.401.00 crore under various schemes.

(i) Works under Government of India Assistance

With the Government of India assistance, construction of Adi Dravidar hostel buildings, Eklavya Model Residential School buildings (EMRS) are taken up.

Under the Babu Jagjivan Ram Chhatrawas Yojana Scheme (BJRCY), 13 hostel buildings are being constructed in 11 districts at a cost of Rs.21.80 crore.

Under Article 275(1) of Constitution of India scheme, school buildings for the five Eklavya Model Residential Schools i.e Kumili in Chengalpattu district, Kizhur in Vellore district, Puliyampatti in Thiruppur district, Senkarai in Namakkal district and M.Palada in Nilgiris district are also being constructed at a cost of Rs.60.00 crore.

(ii) State Government Works

Under State Government schemes, works namely, construction of additional class rooms and science labs to the upgraded Adi Dravidar and Government Tribal Residential Schools, Hostels, Compound Wall, Modern Community Halls, Special repair work to hostel buildings and provision of additional infrastructure facilities to Government Tribal Residential Schools under State Balanced Growth Fund (SBGF) in Kalrayan hills are being undertaken.

During the year 2022-23, 286 works under the State Government schemes costing Rs.204.78 crore have been taken up.

(iii) Works under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (NABARD) scheme

Under NABARD – RIDF schemes, works such as, construction of additional classrooms and science laboratories, providing infrastructure facilities such as compound wall, water supply and toilet blocks to Adi Dravidar Welfare & Government Tribal Residential Schools and new hostel buildings are undertaken.

At present with the financial assistance from Rural Infrastructure development fund of NABARD 34 construction works are being undertaken at a cost of Rs.28.60 crore.

Further, during the year 2021-2022 administrative sanction has been accorded for the construction of 480 class rooms and 15 science laboratories in 150 schools at a cost of Rs.100.00 Crore.
